Place and edit symbols

Drag symbols onto the plan from the palette's groups, then move, turn, resize, label and duplicate them, set the size of every symbol on the plan, and choose IEC or US drawings.

Symbols are placed by dragging, never by tapping, so each one lands exactly where your finger lifts. Once placed, a tap selects a symbol and a small toolbar edits it.

Place a symbol

  1. Choose a group. On a phone, tap the group's name in the bar under the plan; with the phone on its side, tap the icon at the top of the right-hand rail. On an iPad or a Mac, tap a group's icon down the side of the panel.
  2. Page through the group with the arrows at the ends of the row.
  3. Press a symbol and drag it onto the plan. A copy follows your finger and lands where you lift it.

The groups include Power, Switches, Lighting, Distribution and Appliances. Recent comes last and holds the last twelve symbols you placed on this device. The custom symbol, in Distribution, takes a name of your own and shows its initials, or the whole name when it has four characters or fewer.

In the browser, a Search symbols field finds a symbol by name.

Move, turn and resize one symbol

  1. Drag a placed symbol to move it. Its wires follow.
  2. Tap the symbol to select it. A small toolbar appears over it.
  3. Use the toolbar's buttons. Tap the symbol again to deselect it.

Label, circuit and notes

  1. Select the symbol and tap Edit.
  2. Type a Label such as S1 or L2. It shows below the symbol unless you move it, on the plan and in the PDF.
  3. Type a Circuit such as C3. A wire drawn to the symbol can also set it.
  4. Add Notes for yourself or the crew, then tap Done.

Size every symbol on the plan

  1. Tap the symbol size button, the two arrows beside Wire.
  2. Slide between 25 and 300 percent. Every symbol on this plan changes size, labels too, for everyone who opens the plan.

Set it first on a plan of a whole house, where symbols can start out too big for the rooms.

IEC or US symbols

  1. Under the size slider, choose International or US. The account menu's Symbols entry does the same.
  2. The choice belongs to this device, not to the plan. A teammate can see the same plan in the other convention, and your PDFs and load estimates follow your choice.

A device set to the US, Canada, Mexico or the Philippines starts in US symbols; any other starts in International.

Undo and the free limit

Undo and Redo are in the top bar, or in the left-hand rail with the phone on its side. With a keyboard on an iPad or a Mac, use Command-Z and Shift-Command-Z.

A plan in a free account's project holds up to ten symbols. Delete one to place another, or upgrade to Premium for no limit.
