Start a plan: a floorplan in, or the walls drawn
How to start a plan in ePlan: make a project, then bring in the floorplan from a PDF, a photo, the camera or a 3D room scan, or draw the walls on a grid.
Every new plan opens on the Start This Plan card. Pick one way to bring in the floorplan before you place a symbol: the card goes once the plan has a floorplan, a symbol or a wire.
Make a project
- On Projects, tap Add Project (New Project on an empty list).
- Name it after the job, add the site address if you like, and tap Create.
- The project opens with its first plan, Floor Plan, on the Start This Plan card.
For another plan in the same project, tap Add Plan in the project. A free account has one project with two plans.
Import a PDF, a photo or a scan
- Tap Import from Files for a PDF, PNG or JPEG of up to 15 MB, or Import from Photos for a picture.
- A PDF of several pages opens a page picker. Tick the pages you want; page 1 is ticked to start with, and Select All ticks the rest. Tap Import.
- The first ticked page goes into this plan. Each other page becomes a new plan, named after this one with its page number.
- For a drawing on paper, tap Camera and photograph it with the document scanner. A scan of several pages also makes a plan per page.
A free project holds two plans, so pages beyond that are not added.
Scan the rooms in 3D
On an iPhone or iPad with a LiDAR sensor, Scan Rooms in 3D leads the card. It is free on every account.
- Tap it and scan the first room. Move slowly, with the walls, corners and floor in view, then tap Done.
- Tap Add Another Room and walk to the next room without closing ePlan.
- Tap Finish Floor Plan. The preview shows each wall with its length, in feet and inches on a device set to US units and in metres otherwise.
- Tap Use This Plan, or Rescan to start the floor again.
The dimensions are indicative: check the ones that matter with a tape.
Draw the walls
- Tap Draw Walls. A grid opens: one square is half a metre, or 2 feet on a device set to US units. The banner's menu changes the square.
- Tap corner after corner. Tap the first corner to close the room, or the last corner again to end the run.
- Choose Door or Window and tap a wall to add one. Erase removes a wall, door or window. In Wall mode, drag a corner to move it.
- Tap Done. Every wall shows its length.
On a plan with no imported floorplan, a Draw Walls button stays at the bottom left, so walls can be added later. To work on a plain grid, skip the card and drag a symbol straight onto the plan.

If it goes wrong
A plan's floorplan cannot be replaced. If an import or a scan comes out wrong, delete the plan (in the project, press and hold it, then tap Delete Plan) and start a new one.
Next: Place and edit symbols.
